Description

A recipe for savory Italian meatballs infused with smoky flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup wood chips for smoking (hickory or mesquite)
  • 1 (24 ounce) jar marinara sauce

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, milk, egg, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
  3. Prepare your smoker according to the manufacturer’s instructions, using your chosen wood chips. Aim for a temperature of 225°F (107°C).
  4. Place the meatballs directly on the smoker grates. Smoke for 1 hour, or until the meatballs are browned and cooked through.
  5. While the meatballs are smoking, heat the marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat.
  6. Once the meatballs are smoked, add them to the simmering marinara sauce.
  7. Simmer for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  8. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For a deeper smoky flavor, you can increase the smoking time.
  • Ensure your smoker is properly ventilated.
  • You can make these meatballs ahead of time and reheat them in the sauce.
