Description

A simple and delicious pasta dish featuring Italian sausage and your favorite pasta.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 pound pasta of your choice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. While pasta is cooking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add Italian sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Remove sausage with a slotted spoon and set aside.
  3. Add onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Return the cooked sausage to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Add the drained pasta to the skillet and toss to combine with the sauce.
  7. Serve immediately, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.

Notes

  • For a spicier dish, use hot Italian sausage.
  • You can add your favorite vegetables, such as bell peppers or mushrooms, along with the onion.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
