- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a 12-cup muffin tin or line with paper liners.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
- If using, stir in the chopped pecans.
- In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, sugar, cinnamon, and milk until smooth to create the creamy center filling.
- Spoon about half of the muffin batter into the prepared muffin cups.
- Place a teaspoon of the cream cheese filling into the center of each muffin cup.
- Top with the remaining muffin batter, covering the filling.
- Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
- Let the muffins cool in the tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

- For a richer flavor, you can add a touch of nutmeg to the muffin batter.
