Description

A simple recipe for homemade blackberry jam, perfect for spreading on toast or scones.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh blackberries
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Wash the blackberries and remove any stems.
  2. In a large pot, combine the blackberries, sugar, and lemon juice.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring frequently, until the jam thickens.
  5. Test for set by placing a small amount on a chilled plate; if it gels, it is ready.
  6. Ladle the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace.
  7. Wipe rims clean and screw on lids.
  8. Process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
  9. Remove jars and let them cool completely.
