Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups masa harina
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, plus more for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine masa harina, sugar, and salt.
  2. Gradually add warm water and cooled coffee, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions.
  5. Flatten each portion into a 4-inch circle.
  6. Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  7. Carefully place 2-3 gorditas in the hot oil.
  8. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and puffed.
  9. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
