Ingredients

- 1 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, plus more for frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine masa harina, sugar, and salt.
- Gradually add warm water and cooled coffee, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 5 minutes until smooth.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions.
- Flatten each portion into a 4-inch circle.
- Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Carefully place 2-3 gorditas in the hot oil.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and puffed.
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
Notes
- For a stronger coffee flavor, use espresso.
- You can add a pinch of cinnamon to the dough for extra flavor.
- Serve warm with your favorite toppings like honey, butter, or fresh fruit.
